Restoration Services Available
Concours & Full Restorations
Comprehensive Austin J40 restorations, undertaken to an individually agreed specification with careful consideration of originality, presentation and historical detail.
Depending on the requirements of the car, work may include complete disassembly, chassis restoration, body repairs, paintwork, mechanical refurbishment, interior trim, decals and final assembly.
Where practical, original components are carefully retained and restored. Where replacement parts are necessary, suitable components manufactured or supplied by Eaton Heritage Ltd may be incorporated into the restoration.
Each project is approached individually, with the aim of achieving a high-quality finish appropriate to the car and its intended use.
Partial restorations & sympathetic repairs
Not every Austin J40 requires a complete restoration. For owners wishing to preserve original character, we offer sympathetic repairs and partial refurbishment tailored to the condition of the car.
Work may include body repairs, paint correction, mechanical refurbishment and replacement of worn or missing components.
Our approach aims to retain as much original material and character as practical, particularly where a pedal car has interesting history or well-preserved original features.
All projects are subject to assessment and workshop availability.
Rolling chassis & project support
We also provide specialist support for Austin J40 restoration projects undertaken in stages.
Depending on workshop availability, services may include rolling chassis preparation, component refurbishment, mechanical repairs and technical guidance.

The Restoration Process
Step 1: Inspection and Evaluation
Every restoration begins with an assessment of the Austin J40’s condition, originality and individual requirements. We discuss the proposed work with the owner and establish an appropriate restoration plan before proceeding.
Step 2: Disassembly and Cleaning
Where required, the pedal car is carefully dismantled to allow its components and bodywork to be inspected, cleaned and prepared for restoration.
Step 3: Restoration and Repair
Worn or damaged components are assessed for repair or replacement. Particular attention is given to preserving original features where practical, alongside structural integrity and mechanical functionality.
Step 4: Paintwork and Finishing
Bodywork preparation, paint application and finishing are undertaken in accordance with the agreed restoration specification, with close attention to surface preparation, colour and final presentation.
Step 5: Reassembly
Restored and replacement components are carefully assembled, with attention given to correct fitment, operation and overall finish.
Step 6: Final Inspection and Quality Control
Before completion, the restored Austin J40 undergoes a final inspection covering its appearance, assembly, mechanical operation and the agreed scope of work.
Each restoration is approached individually. We do not offer fixed “packages”, as every Austin J40 has its own history and requirements.
Authenticity and attention to detail
Our restoration work draws upon original factory references, surviving Austin J40 examples and extensive hands-on experience with these historic pedal cars.
We place particular importance on appropriate finishes, component selection, detailing and the preservation of original features wherever practical.
Where replacement components are required, we can incorporate suitable parts manufactured or supplied by Eaton Heritage Ltd, selected according to the individual requirements of the restoration.

Restoration Commissions
Due to the specialist nature of our work, we accept a limited number of Austin J40 restoration commissions each year. This allows us to dedicate the necessary time, craftsmanship and attention to detail to every project.
